Yesterday, Wednesday, in Marrakesh, a training and awareness campaign targeting women working in hammams and the beauty sector was launched to promote the early detection of breast and cervical cancer. This initiative is part of the National Campaign for Awareness, Prevention, and Early Detection of Cancer, organized throughout the month at the Reproductive Health Center in Hay Al Massira, aiming to empower these women to recognize early symptoms that may appear in some clients.
Simultaneously, the awareness campaign continues at the Hay Al Hassani Health Center, raising women’s awareness about the importance of early detection. Medical and paramedical staff at both centers have dedicated the entire month to guiding women and encouraging them to undergo preventive screenings.
In a statement to the Moroccan News Agency (MAP), Zohra Shiker, Head Nurse at Hay Al Hassani Health Center, emphasized that the campaign particularly targets women aged 30–49 for cervical cancer screening and women aged 40–69 for breast cancer screening, with a focus on teaching self-examination at home to enhance vigilance and early detection of any abnormal signs.
Meanwhile, Yazan Mohamed Amin, Director of the Reproductive Health and Early Cancer Detection Center in Marrakesh, explained that a simplified training program will be organized for women working in hammams to help them identify cancer symptoms and refer suspected cases to the appropriate treatment pathway, while preventive guidance will be provided to women who show no symptoms.
This initiative is part of the national campaign launched by the Ministry of Health and Social Protection under the slogan “Your Health is Your Capital, Prevention and Early Detection are Your Guarantee”, aiming to raise awareness about prevention and early detection, including vaccinating girls against the human papillomavirus (HPV). A structured system for early detection of breast and cervical cancer has also been developed under the first and second national cancer control plans (2010–2019 and 2020–2029) to enhance the quality of screening, diagnosis, and treatment in Morocco.
