Today, Wednesday, Fez hosted the opening of an international conference on “Accessibility and Mobility in Urban and Suburban Areas: Challenges and Opportunities for the Cities of Tomorrow”, with the participation of experts, professionals, and institutional actors from Morocco and abroad.
The opening session was attended by the Minister of Equipment and Water, Nizar Baraka, and the Minister of Transport and Logistics, Abdeslam Kiyouh, alongside stakeholders involved in urban planning and mobility innovation.
Around 200 participants are taking part in the conference, which aims to establish a high-level scientific and professional dialogue on developing sustainable urban mobility policies. Participants include representatives of multilateral organizations and policymakers in public policies related to transport and urban management.
The conference serves as a platform for international exchange and sharing experiences regarding the challenges of urban and suburban mobility, with the goal of formulating recommendations to support the transition toward cities that are more inclusive, sustainable, and resilient, while respecting the specificities of each area.
The three-day program includes five technical sessions and a roundtable that will address the priorities outlined in the 2024–2027 strategic plan of the World Road Association, along with presentations and discussions of Moroccan and international experiences in this field.
Discussions will focus on exploring innovative solutions in planning, organization, safety, and flexibility of transport systems, with particular attention to social equity, inclusion, and sustainability, in addition to developing a forward-looking vision for more accessible and resilient cities.
The conference is organized by the Moroccan Permanent Association for Road Conferences, in partnership with the World Road Association and the Private University of Fez, under the supervision of the Ministry of Equipment and Water.
