Syrian media reported on Thursday that four soldiers were killed and nine others sustained varying injuries following an improvised explosive device (IED) explosion targeting a bus belonging to the Syrian Ministry of Defense in the eastern countryside of Deir Ezzor.
The incident occurred on the road connecting the cities of Deir Ezzor and Al-Mayadin, near the village of Sa‘lo, while the bus was transporting guards of oil facilities. The explosion almost completely destroyed the vehicle.
Field sources indicated that the IED was likely planted by members of the “ISIS” organization. Ambulance teams quickly rushed to the scene to transport the injured to hospitals, while government forces imposed a security cordon in the area to prevent further attacks.
This attack comes two days after a small truck carrying personnel from the 86th Brigade of the Ministry of Defense was targeted on the same road near the Al-Toub village junction, resulting in injuries to two soldiers, highlighting ongoing attacks against government forces in the region.
The incident underscores the persistent security challenges in the Deir Ezzor countryside, where ISIS militants continue to carry out attacks despite ongoing military operations by Syrian forces.
